The Social Group

The Parish Social Group is responsible for organising whole parish social activities including the annual Barn Dance, BBQ and other such events. The Group also tries to ensure that other social events held within the parish are co-ordinated in such a way so that they do not clash with each other.

GUIDELINES
PARISH SOCIAL GROUP


Purpose & Aims
1. The purposes of the Parish Social Group (PSG) shall be to promote the life and mission of the Church through promoting, initiating and encouraging social action in the parish.

Membership
2. Two members respectively from St Tarcisius, St Peter & St John, and Christ the King communities will form the nucleus of the group. Ex Officio and other members may be co-opted from time to time as required to fulfil specific purposes. The Chairperson will be appointed by the parish priest. Members will be selected jointly by the Chairperson and the Parish Priest. Membership of the PSG will be for a 3-year term, which may be renewable.

Meetings
3. There should be held as required. The Parish Priest should be invited to attend meetings as required.

Relationship to other Parish Structures
4. The PSG should relate closely with other parish organisations as appropriate when deciding on major parish social events. In particular the PSG should establish a mechanism with the Justice & Peace Group so as to eliminate calendar conflicts and establish good communications regarding parish giving policy, fund raising events and whole parish social events.

Principal Objectives
5.The PSG will aim to:

a. build up the parish by encouraging parishioners to meet together, with the purpose of getting to know each other better and to encourage fellowship in an informal and fun way.
b. de-conflict and co-ordinate all social events taking place in the parish over a calendar year including events arranged by the SVP, Knights of St Columba, Justice & Peace, the PSG itself and others.
c. closely liaise with the Justice & Peace Group regarding Parish Giving and Parish events.
d. take the lead as a group or delegate responsibility for the provision of social gatherings following Services of Reconciliation, Christmas and Easter celebrations, the annual Parish Fun BBQ, Tea following the July Mass for the Sick. The PSG may arrange other parish socials such as Barn Dances and other similar events as appropriate.
e. arrange for advertising of PSG organised events in the newsletter, on the website and in other ways.
f. arrange for non sponsored events to be staffed as appropriate.
g. ensure that the appropriate insurance is taken out if necessary to cover specific social events.
h. staff the gaining of alcohol permits as required.
i. liaise with the Parish Finance Committee for funding if required for up for deposits etc.
j. collect all payments for events and ensure invoices are paid speedily.
k. liaise with the appropriate authority if halls or other venues are required to ensure that they are available.
l. to ensure that advance warning is given to hirers of halls should a parish event be taking place at a venue normally used for other purposes. To ensure that car parking issues are resolved before such events.
m. where practical organise transport to social events whether by arranging lifts for people or hiring additional transport if required.
n. ensure that safeguarding, health & safety and fire risk protocols are observed at all parish social events.
